Every so often one of these pops up, about how models get photoshopped so they look better. I'll probably get strung up for saying so, but I'm not so sure it's all that bad. A picture only appeals to one sense, sight. There's more to real life than that, so it only makes sense you'd need to compensate.

That's not to say Maxim and the like don't take the idea to insanely absurd lengths though.

That's funny, I just bought a tablet and a wonderful book, Skin, on how to retouch and make people look good.

I've been able to do some basic retouching, and I'm very impressed with the things I can do with simple operations in photoshop. The masters at this stuff can turn a 50 year old into a 20 year old. It's spooky.

That's a little dishonest, I think, if it's supposed to be a picture of a real person.

There is a video collection somewhere on youtube that is probably about half an hour long in total, where it shows someone photoshopping a very overweight girl into a supermodel. It's AMAZING. It goes through the whole process with before/after shots inserted in every now and then. It blows me away!

well I have two thoughts on this.

a. me likey. It keeps digital artist working. One of my first jobs out of college was to rotoscope the cellulite out of a commercial models thighs as she walked away from the camera. 24 frames a second for 30 seconds is actually a lot.

b. girls pukey. education about the modification of and touch ups as they call them them could help some girl from sticking her finger down her throat.

It's 720 frames. :-P I think it's just compensating for the fact that you can't smell, hear or feel a picture.
