I find it pretty damn hilarious that this website article censors the words "G-d" and "L-rd". It's like I found the jewish Landover Baptists.

Thus they accepted the Torah outright, with all its precepts, not even asking for a detailed enumeration of the obligations and duties it involved.

I guess that explains the legendary nit picky-ness stereotype. Once you get burned that bad on a contract you learn to read the fine print.

Ok, how does that translate into "don't ever use these words EVER"? It's the same sort of thought process that justifies the total prohibition of anything good because it's merely possible for it to be used wrongly. And that's dangerous.

Okay, I'm a little frustrated because I wrote a really good response and my browser ate it. Let me try again.

It doesn't translate into "don't use those words ever." They still use the words, they just spell them differently. I don't even see how you get that it "justify the total prohibition of anything good." It's out of respect for God.

I recommend you read the rest of that page. It talks about why names are important, particularly the names of God.

One more thing: I don't know where you're coming from when looking at this, but just in case - you can't really examine anything Jewish while thinking about Christians. Judaism is totally different. Faith means something totally different, the learning is different, there's not really a heaven or hell, etc. It's a whole different paradigm.
