You know that's what a medical examiner does. Documents all injuries to the body. It is definitely part of a full autopsy report to note all injuries sustained, especially ones leading up to a person's death. So yes, someone is there, spending the better part of their day, counting up to 112.
I wanted to become a medical examiner with my future (hopeful) M.D., and I researched the position thoroughly. But then I actually smelled the stench of dead people, and decided I get too queasy.
I still think it's something of an estimate. I mean, I just can't imagine several dozen stabbing wounds being clean enough to come up with an absolute number. And by clean I don't mean sans blood and such, I mean nice neat countable hits.
