She's an African-American actress who won acclaim in the fairly recent film Dreamgirls. She's also not your typical rail thin Hollywood starlet, so she gets positive attention for that. She has a great singing voice.
who cares about someone's mother and brother - doesn't matter who or what size she is - getting murdered? Or about another shite case of domestic violence? I do.
Of course I can care about them all. It doesn't mean I spend my waking life thinking about domestic violence but it does mean that I will pay each case due attention and not be flippant about a hideous murder. I don't mean to sound priggish, I just don't think it's fair to be dismissive of a vile thing - to lose your mother, for god's sake - just because it's getting media attention or because she's famous. rant over.
I had no idea who this person was, and my point is that I *still* don't know why I should, apart from this murder/kidnapping matter. I just don't understand why this is more newsworthy than any other similar situation.
She won an Oscar for Dreamgirls, which was her first acting job. She has an incredible voice. Not saying that makes this situation any more tragic than if it had happened to any non-famous or talented person, but that's how most people know of her.
