Over in Aussie land, they call them Blue bottles. I don't know if the ones from down Portugal way are worse, but our ones (which look identical) give you a nasty sting which results in red lash looking marks on the skin - I don't think anyones ever died from one though. My mate had one with it's stingers go up his swimming shorts. Quite funny when you look back on it. I think the trick is pouring vinegar on your wound? Urinating on it might help too - and if not, would still be a good excuse to piss on your mate whilst they're writhing around from the sting.
