Finished (fucking FINALLY) Dragon Quest VIII last night, as well as Foundation, and immediately started on Deliverance, on the recommendation of [livejournal.com profile] jeffpalmatier. I kind of wish I hadn't, it was quite a jarring cognitive dissonance.

I liked Foundation so much I sort of wish I'd had another one of the novels. The only thing that really irked me was that, ok the Empire is falling and the outlying regions are growing autonomous and barbaric. But in space? Supposedly one of the effects of this imperial decay is the loss of nuclear power, and yet all these worlds function just as they did when they had it. It's a great book, but the setting is just totally wrong and more than slightly unbelievable. Asimov did an excellent job on this theme, but A Canticle for Leibowitz had a far superior setting.

DQVIII. Well, what took me so long was the grinding necessary to gain enough levels to beat the final boss in the bonus section. Bleh. It sure felt gooooood to smackdown (in one shot no less) that damned darksteel dragon.

What sucks is I'm stuck on the only other PS2 game I have, "Destroy all Humans". The mission I can't get past involves chasing a car and destroying it. But I can never keep close enough to do the damage necessary! A good chunk of the reason is just that the controls make zero sense to me, they're just insanely complicated. Oh well, maybe if I start over and immerse myself I'll get the feel of it. Any tips gladly accepted.
