Jan. 5th, 2006 12:23 pmCan someone tell me why I should care about these 12 WV miners specifically? I mean, over and above say, the 15 muslims killed in a hotel collapse in Mecca? Or the hundred or so in Iraq? I don't know any of those people, had no connection to any of it. So beyond the general "death sucks", why should I care? Because CNN and FOX are shoving it down my throat? I'd like each of you to take a moment, and think about all the people who die everyday that you never hear about. That no one ever hears about. That don't get the media and their viewers crying along with their loved ones.

It's gone now, but CNN's website had a big banner headline on it saying "WE HAD A MIRACLE TAKEN AWAY". Umm, no. You didn't. You had an unreasonable hope taken away. I'm freaking amazed there was one survivor. I'm still kinda half-expecting him to croak any minute. Or end up a drooling idiot in a wheelchair. If it were someone I knew, I'd be damn happy, because I'd have given them up for gone already.
